Tragic death of two people in Gem Yala over road dispute.

Police in Gem Yala are currently investigating the tragic deaths of two adults that occurred yesterday.

The incident stemmed from a misunderstanding between two families regarding access to a road, escalating into a fatal confrontation.

According to an incident report, tensions flared when James Warambo found himself at odds with Charles Ogoma’s family over the access road.

In an attempt to defuse the situation, Francis Omondi, aged 45, stepped in. However, tragically, he was fatally attacked by Mr. Ogoma using a machete.

Witnessing the violence, members of the public intervened, but instead of restoring peace, they resorted to mob justice against Ogoma.

The incident report further elucidated that on May 20, 2024, at approximately 5:05 PM, James Warambo contacted the area assistant chief to report the dispute over the access road.

When Francis Omondi attempted to mediate, he was struck on the head with a machete by Charles Orua Ogoma.

Prompted by this distress call, the area assistant chief, accompanied by police officers from Nyawara, rushed to the scene, only to find Mr Ogoma being subjected to mob violence, he died moments later from the injuries.

In the ensuing chaos, two houses belonging to the late Charles Ogoma were set ablaze by the angry mob. Additionally, Masel Ohoma, the son of Mr Ogoma, sustained a stab wound to his thigh and was promptly rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Subsequently, the bodies of the deceased individuals were transported to Yala Sub-county mortuary for further investigation.
