Fisherman drowns in Lake Victoria.

A 26-year-old fisherman tragically drowned in the waters of Lake Victoria near Ndeda Island in Bondo sub-county, yesterday.

The fisherman, identified as Obedi Oruta, reportedly slipped and fell into the water while casting his fishing net.

Siaya County Police Commander, Cleti Kimaiyo, told Kondele News that the incident was reported to Bondo Police station by Patrick Otieno, the Assistant Chief of Uyawi sub-location.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers established that Obedi, had slipped into Lake Victoria waters while casting his fishing net.

Efforts to rescue him were hampered by the rough waves caused by heavy tides.

Mr. Kimaiyo noted that the body was retrieved from the waters and taken to Bondo sub-county hospital mortuary pending an autopsy.
