300 students benefit from Siaya NGAAF kitty, Dr Ombaka.

Three hundred students from Siaya County are set to benefit from a bursary worth 4.8 million shillings, courtesy of the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF), as announced by Siaya’s woman member of the National Assembly, Christine Ombaka.

Addressing attendees during the bursary launch at the Wagai Resource Centre in Gem Constituency today, Dr. Ombaka stated that the beneficiaries have been selected from all 30 wards within the county. Each recipient will receive financial support from the fund starting from Form One through to the highest academic level.

However, Dr. Ombaka expressed concern over the insufficiency of funds to fully cover the educational needs of the beneficiaries.

Many students currently owe educational institutions substantial fee balances due to the inadequate support provided.

The fee we provide per child is 10,000 shillings, which is insufficient, leading to significant outstanding balances.

Dr. Ombaka appealed to fellow Members of Parliament to allocate additional funds to NGAAF to expand its reach and impact. She emphasized the fund’s importance in positively impacting the lives of citizens.

Nancy Okademi, the NGAAF coordinator in Siaya, affirmed that the fund is currently supporting ten students per ward in the county.

She echoed Dr. Ombaka’s plea for increased government allocation to NGAAF to extend its assistance to more individuals in need.

Additionally, during the event, the fund disbursed 4 million shillings to various groups to support diverse economic activities.

Additionally, the woman representative distributed blankets to elderly and vulnerable members of society as part of the initiative’s broader support efforts.
