MP Mwinyi confronted by activists in Changamwe

CHANGAMWE: What began as a somber visit to comfort victims of an early morning fire in Changamwe Sub-County quickly turned into a heated standoff on Monday.

Changamwe MP Omar Mwinyi found himself at the center of a confrontation with local activists while addressing residents of the Magongo area, where a fast-moving blaze had just reduced three homes to ashes.

The fire reportedly broke out in the early hours of Monday morning.

Though the exact cause remains under investigation, witnesses say it started in one house before rapidly spreading to neighboring structures.

By the time the flames were contained, three families were left with nothing but debris, assessing the total loss of their property and personal belongings.

As the MP arrived to assess the damage and speak to the affected families, the atmosphere shifted.

Local activists disrupted the address, leading to a visible confrontation.

This isn’t the first time the veteran legislator has faced a volatile environment.

MP Mwinyi, who has represented the area since 2013, has a history of high-pressure interactions, including past legal battles over election-related disturbances.
