Puzzle as unidentified wild animal attack and consume a woman in Laikipia

LAIKIPIA: Kenya Wildlife Service Officers, alongside the Police and Conservancy officials in Laikipia County, are currently engaged in tracking an animal believed to have attacked, killed, and consumed a middle-aged woman at Borana Conservancy along the Ethi-Borana road.

The incident, initially reported by Francis Wanjohi, a driver from Ngarendare Conservancy, has left authorities puzzled as to which animal could have perpetrated such a serious attack.

Upon arriving at the scene, investigators determined that a wild animal, suspected to be a lion, had devoured the body to the point of being unrecognizable.

“Police officers visited the scene where it was established that unknown middle aged woman had been attacked and killed last night by a wild animal suspected to be a lion and her body eaten beyond recognition leaving behind only the skull and the left hand together with some intestines and some bones. Also left behind were one long trouser and a jacket,” stated a police incident report recorded at Umande Police station.

The scene was meticulously processed and documented, with the remains collected and transferred to the Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary pending identification and postmortem examination.

KWS officers from Umande have been notified and are actively assisting in efforts to ascertain and track down the specific animal involved in the incident.
