Babu Owino visits the police officer who lost fingers in the demos

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino visited Chief Inspector David Maina, a police officer who lost fingers after a tear gas canister exploded while he was handling it.

Owino also met with Corporal Moraa, another female officer injured during the altercation with protestors, at Nairobi West Hospital.

Owino shared on his Facebook page, “Yesterday evening, I visited Chief Inspector David Maina and Corporal Moraa at Nairobi West Hospital to check on their recovery. While CI Maina suffered serious injuries, I commend the doctors and nurses for their efforts in ensuring his recovery. It’s regrettable that anyone should be injured in the exercise of citizens’ democratic rights.”

He further remarked, “Police should exercise restraint when dealing with protestors.

Young people are demonstrating and fighting for everyone’s rights. Let us not allow ourselves to be used to suppress freedom in Kenya, our beloved country. Kenya belongs to all of us, and we must uphold these rights.”
