Tourism Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua visited Inspector David Karuri Maina, who lost his fingers when a teargas canister detonated in his hands during efforts to quell demonstrators in Nairobi’s CBD.
The incident left Inspector Maina in intense pain, prompting the visit from CS Mutua to offer support and solidarity during this difficult time.
The Tourism boss gave the family Sh1 million to cushion them when the breadwinner is down.
“My visit highlights the profound impact of the recent unrest on both the individuals involved and the broader community, underscoring the need for tolerance, unity and resilience in challenging times. While affirming the right of Kenyans to protest, I caution against demonstrations driven by mere activism and propaganda,” posted Dr Mutua on his X account.
The protests, attended by many young Kenyans, brought several activities in Nairobi to a halt on the third day. The U.S. Embassy responded by issuing a travel advisory to American citizens in Kenya due to the disruptions caused.
