Panga wielding brothers fight over ancestral land, one dead two seriously injured

Police are investigating a case involving three brothers who engaged in a violent altercation resulting in the death of one sibling.

According to a police incident report obtained by Kondele News, the three brothers were embroiled in a land dispute that escalated into a fatal brawl.

The deceased, identified as Maurice Aduol Okelo, 55 years old, along with his brothers Macus Odhiambo Okelo and Calimus Odhiambo Okelo, were involved in a heated confrontation that tragically ended in Maurice’s death.

The incident occurred yesterday evening, as reported by Assistant Chief Risper Okoth of the area.

“I initially mediated a dispute among the brothers in 2020 when the deceased complained to me that his banana plantation on a jointly owned piece of land was destroyed by one of his siblings,” Ms. Okoth stated.

The conflict persisted and culminated in yesterday’s fatal altercation.

“Yesterday, one of the brothers reportedly attacked another with a machete, prompting the third brother to intervene with another machete,” she recounted.

The ensuing struggle resulted in severe injuries as bystanders were unable to separate them.

Maurice Aduol succumbed to his injuries on the spot, while his two brothers sustained injuries.

“A disagreement over ancestral land among the three brothers escalated into a physical altercation, leading to Maurice Aduol Okelo sustaining multiple head injuries that proved fatal,” stated a police incident report filed at Bar Ogong’o Police Station. Macus Omondi Okelo, 37 years old, suffered a deep cut on his left arm, and Camilus Odhiambo Okello, 34 years old, sustained a deep cut on his forehead.

The police recovered two blood-stained machetes from the crime scene.
