Kibwezi MP, Mwengi Muthusi, amesalimiwa na Gen Z

Kibwezi Member of Parliament Mwengi Muthusi narrowly avoided a confrontation with angry constituents during a public event recently.

The lawmaker had apparently ignored calls from the younger generation to refrain from using church pulpits and public gatherings for political purposes.

Mr. Muthusi, who had voted in favor of the controversial Finance Bill 2024, attended a funeral in his constituency where he was met with displeasure from the attendees.

A viral video on social media captured the moment when Muthusi engaged in a heated argument with a man seated nearby.

Tensions escalated quickly as another individual grabbed him, leading to a crowd gathering around them. Fortunately, he was guided away from the scene, narrowly escaping further conflict.

Several lawmakers who supported the bill have publicly expressed regret, but social media users remain unforgiving, calling for politicians to be barred from such platforms.

President William Ruto had initially encouraged his MPs to endorse the bill, but his subsequent change of stance has left his supporters vulnerable to public scrutiny.

In a related development, Lavington United Church canceled a fundraising event that was scheduled to be attended by the First Lady, Rachel Ruto.
