Pain as a farmer suffer loss worth millions

A farmer in Nyamira, Dennis Rosana, is mourning the loss of nine high-value dairy cows worth over Sh1.2million.

The tragedy began on Palm Sunday while Rosana, the Chairman of the Borabu NG-CDF, was attending church.

He returned home to find five of his Ayrshire and Friesian cows dead.

Despite emergency veterinary care, another four died by Monday night.

Veterinarian Onchiri Ratemo, with nearly two decades of experience, described the scene as unprecedented.

Preliminary findings suggest the cattle ingested a toxin that caused massive blood clotting. Samples have since been sent to a laboratory to identify the exact substance, which is believed to have been intentionally laced into the animals’ feed on Saturday night.

The loss has a ripple effect on the Ensakia village community, as many neighbors relied on Rosana’s farm for their daily milk supply.

Even with the heavy financial and personal blow, Rosana has met the incident with remarkable grace, stating that his Christian faith has led him to forgive whoever targeted his livelihood.

While the carcasses have been disposed of following public health protocols, local residents are calling for a swift investigation to bring those responsible for the “callous” act to justice.
