Family escapes death narrowly after their house caught fire

A family narrowly escaped tragedy in Siaya Sub-County after their grass-thatched house caught fire yesterday.

The incident occurred in Kasiganda village, Barding sub-location, where Felix James Otieno and his family reside.

Mr. Otieno and his family noticed their house was on fire and managed to escape unharmed, according to a police report obtained by Kondele News.

Upon rushing out of their burning home around 1:00 AM, Otieno saw two men suspected of starting the fire fleeing into a nearby maize plantation.

“At around 0100 hours, while inside his house with his family, fire suddenly broke out from the roof corner,” the report stated. “He rushed outside and found two unknown men escaping into the maize farm.”

The report added, “He raised an alarm and with the help of other family members, they managed to salvage all household items. No injuries were reported.”

Officers from the National Police Service (NPS) visited the scene in Kasiganda village, Barding sub-location, Southeast Alego location, and confirmed that the entire grass-thatched house had been destroyed by the fire.
