One person has died following an incident where a bus owned by Uzima University veered off the road after the driver lost control in Kisumu.
According to a police incident report obtained by Kondele News, the bus was carrying a total of 19 people: 17 students and two staff members.
They were on their way from St. Monica Hospital for an academic trip.
“They were from St Monica hospital along Kakamega road on an educational trip. Upon reaching Coptic round about, the driver lost control of the vehicle as he was manoevuering the said round about, veered off the road to the right side, the bus overturned and rested on its left side a cross the road completely blocking one side of the dual carriage way from Kisumu towards Kakamega,” read the report.
The report further stated, “As a result ,one female member of staff died on the spot, while other passengers sustained injuries as follows: one female member of staff sustained serious injuries and is admitted at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTR) 3 male, 4 female students and the driver sustained slight injuries and were treated and discharged. Body of the deceases moved to same hospital mortuary for preservation awaiting postmortem.”
