Joy As Catherine Wanjeri, Mediamax Journalist, who was shot in protests returns

Nakuru based Media Max journalist Catherine Wanjeri has been discharged from the hospital after undergoing surgery to remove two bullets lodged in her thighs. Wanjeri was shot three times while covering anti-government demonstrations in Nakuru town on Tuesday, leading to her hospitalization.

As she was wheeled out of the hospital, accompanied by colleagues and Media Council CEO David Omwoyo, Wanjeri struggled to hold back her tears. Her colleagues greeted her with songs and joy, expressing their outrage at the authorities for mishandling firearms and shooting at innocent journalists.

Dressed in attire easily identifiable as a journalist, Wanjeri was shot three times by a police officer. Her shooting sparked widespread condemnation from journalists and stakeholders, who called on the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to investigate and hold the responsible officers accountable.

While in the hospital, Wanjeri stated that the officer who shot her knew her and had a motive to harm her. She was singled out among the many journalists covering the protests.
