Man in court for cutting finger of a police officer

GEM YALA: A 31-year-old man from Ndere sub-location appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Virginia Karanja on Thursday, facing multiple charges including threatening to kill and assaulting a police officer.

Linford Oluoch Oyudo was accused of threatening Walter Oyudo Okwanya while armed with a panga on March 16, 2026.

According to the charge sheet, Oyudo allegedly uttered the words, “Nitakuua usiponipatia pesa zangu” (I will kill you if you don’t give me my money).

The court further heard that on March 22, the situation escalated when police officers moved to arrest the suspect.

Oyudo allegedly resisted violently, using a sharp object to cut the index and middle fingers of Police Constable Michael Kipkemei, an officer attached to Yala Police Station who was in the due execution of his duties.

Oluoch Oyudo faces three counts; threatening to kill, assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest

The accused denied all charges; prosecution lead Joyce Mumu did not object to bail, and Magistrate Karanja subsequently ordered the suspect’s release on a Sh200,000 bond.

The case is scheduled for a full hearing on April 30, 2026.
