Two women arrested for marrying off a minor

KILIFI: On Friday, two women appeared before the Malindi Law Court, facing charges related to the marriage of a minor in Kanagoni village, Magarini, Kilifi County.

The accused, who appeared before Resident Magistrate Nkurrunah Namnyak, denied the allegations and were granted bail: Ksh.80,000 in cash or a bond of Ksh.150,000 each.

Court documents revealed that the two women, along with several others not present in court, were involved in orchestrating the marriage of a 13-year-old girl in Kanagoni, Magarini sub-county.

The two women, identified as the mothers of the young bride and the groom, were apprehended while arranging the wedding for the underage couple.

Kilifi County Police Commander Fatma Hadi has issued a stern warning to parents, urging them to end the practice of early marriage and prioritize sending their children to school. The case is scheduled for mention on August 22.
