Bondo: A shocking incident has left the Bondo community reeling, four suspects are in police custody after allegedly beating a man to death over unpaid rent.
The victim, identified as Moses Onyango, endured a horrific ordeal at the hands of his fellow tenants and the caretaker of the rental houses where he lived.
According to reports, Onyango had fallen behind on his rent for three months, which apparently led to growing tensions among the residents.
Things took a violent turn when Onyango was accused of stealing clothes from the other tenants. The situation escalated into a brutal act of vigilante justice.
George Ouma, a close friend of the deceased, received word of the unfolding tragedy and rushed to the scene.
What he found was a sight he would never forget. “I arrived to see my friend tied naked to an electric pole, while four tenants took turns beating him,” Ouma recounted, his voice heavy with emotion.
When Ouma demanded an explanation for the savage treatment, the attackers cited Onyango’s rent arrears and the alleged theft as their justification.
Horrified by the brutality, Ouma intervened, untying Onyango and rushing him to the hospital.
Tragically, despite Ouma’s efforts, Onyango was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital, succumbing to the severe injuries inflicted during the attack.
The police acted swiftly, arresting four individuals in connection with the murder.
The suspects have been identified as Hafidh Ali Owino, 26; Stephen Odhiambo Mito, 24; Moses Okelo Ochieng, 21; and Trivolter Dan Otieno, 23. They are now being held as investigations continue into this tragic and senseless killing.
