Police in Kinangop South are continuing their investigation into the cause of a fire that tragically claimed the lives of two minors on August 27.
According to a report filed at Magumu Police Station, the mother of the two children had left the house to buy milk from a nearby shop. Upon her return, she found the entire house engulfed in flames.
Despite efforts to rescue the children, aged six and four, they could not be saved.
“The fire started at around 7:50 PM at the Heni Dispensary staff quarters and completely destroyed the first floor of the wooden building,” the report stated. “A nurse, identified as Mary Nyambura, had left her two children alone in the house to buy milk, and upon returning, found the house in flames.”
The report further noted that the fire was eventually extinguished by a fire brigade from Naivasha, and two bodies, believed to be the nurse’s children, were recovered from the scene.
The value of the property destroyed and the cause of the fire are yet to be determined. The bodies have been moved to Engineer Hospital mortuary pending autopsy.
