Mayienga Radio Presenter, Festus Amimo, warms heart by mobilizing Sh100k for a needy student

Renowned media personality and radio host Festus Amimo McOng’udi has touched many hearts by reigniting hope for a student on the verge of dropping out of school due to financial constraints.

On his morning show at Mayienga FM, one of the vernacular KBC FM stations, Mr. Amimo rallied his extensive fan base to raise Sh100,000 to cover the educational arrears of the student in need.

The story gained prominence after Siaya-based reporter Brighton Omolo highlighted the struggles of a mother of five, who was distressed over her inability to fund her bright daughter’s education.

Mr. Amimo, who has faced his own educational struggles, was deeply moved by the story shared during his morning program, prompting him to act.

The morning show, titled “Gari Mokinyi” (loosely translated as “Morning Matatu”), is popular across the Nyanza region and Western Kenya, attracting a diverse audience from early risers to those who linger in bed.

With his commanding voice, Mr. Amimo urged his listeners to arise to the cause.

Following the broadcast, Mr. Amimo revisited the story, which had resonated widely—from living rooms to matatus, business premises, and offices.

Listeners responded with generous donations, initially raising Sh76,000. The total amount eventually grew to Sh100,000, which was promptly sent to the distressed family.

Mr. Amimo, known for his compassionate efforts towards needy students, was heartened by the supportive response.

The calls and messages he received were filled with praise for his initiative.

On this occasion, the radio presenter left the station with a sense of fulfillment, having successfully helped the young girl return to school.
