A viral video of a school headteacher mistreating an intern teacher has elicited mixed reactions online.
An unidentified school in Migori County witnessed one of the worst altercations between the headteacher and an intern teacher.
In the video, the headteacher is heard forcing the junior staff member to vacate the staffroom and sit under a tree, which the intern declines.
“Get out and go sit under that tree. I am the one to tell you where to sit,” says the headteacher.
In response, the intern, who is also recording the entire incident on his handset, says, “We have a staffroom, and like other members of staff, I have the right to sit in the staffroom. You can’t direct me to sit under a tree when there is a staffroom for all the staff.”
The headteacher insists, “You don’t have the right to sit in the staffroom. Get out.”
The video has attracted criticism regarding how headteachers treat junior staff members.
Cynthia wrote, “This is inhuman. First the TSC is frustrating the intern teachers, the school heads do the same and the learners also follow suit.”
William Ouma commented on the video that was uploaded on a whatsApp group, “Let the TSC and the authorities concerned take the matter and teach the head teacher a lesson.”
