Shock as a woman dies after stepping on an explosive in Mandera

MANDERA: A woman died after stepping on an explosive in her farm located 100m from the Kenya-Somalia border in Mandera County.

The deceased, identified as Fatuma Abdinoor Mohamed 44, stepped on the explosive which was within her farm resulting into fatal injuries.

According to a police incident report seen by Kondele News, the deceased was in company of her 11 year-old daughter who also sustained serious injuries.

“On reaching at the scene it was established that his sister namely Fatuma Madnoor Mohammed aged 44years now deceased had stepped on a suspected explosive remnant of war resulting to fatal injuries-loss of her right leg and injuries on her stomach,” stated the report.

The report further indicated, “She was accompanied by her daughter namely Asma Mohamed Noor aged 11years who sustained seriously injured on both legs and currently been treated at Mandera Referral Hospital.”

The body of the deceased has been taken to Mandera Hospital Mortuary as police continue with investigations.
