A female Administrative Police officer accused of shooting and killing her husband 12 times at Kimumu estate in Eldoret claimed she acted in self-defense.
Presiding High Court Judge, Justice Reuben Nyakundi, heard that on October 14, 2023, Lilian Biwott shot her husband, Victor Kipchumba, after he allegedly attempted to snatch her official AK-47 rifle.
Lilian testified that she received a threatening call from Victor, who planned to kill their four children.
When she eventually entered their bedroom, Victor, armed with a knife, reportedly became violent and assaulted her.
The couple scuffled for about an hour before the shooting incident occurred which claimed life of the deceased.
Lilian explained that she feared for her life, believing Victor would kill her if she did not act first.
After realizing she had killed him, she knelt down and prayed, asking for forgiveness. She described her late husband, a matatu driver, as violent and abusive, frequently insulting her in front of their children.
Since her arrest last year, Lilian has been detained at the Eldoret GK Remand Prison, denied bond due to security concerns. The case is set to be heard on October 9.
