Kenyan’s have taken their opposition to the proposed bill seeking to extend elected leaders term limits from the current five years to seven to Senator Cherargei’s doorstep.
The Nandi senator who is behind the bill revealed that Kenyans are blowing up his phone with text messages, phone calls and WhatsApp messages expressing their displeasure in the proposed bill.
“I have not had peace. My phone is almost collapsing. I have received over 10,000 SMS and hundreds and hundreds of WhatsApp messages and calls,” said the senator
He urged Kenyans to channel their views through the official avenues provided for by the constitution instead of bombarding his phone with calls and messages.
“I want to appeal to Kenyans to use the official email of parliament because my phone is almost blowing up. Even in my social media pages, I have not had peace,” Cherargei said in a press conference in his office.
The proposed bill tabled by senator Cherargei seeks to have the term of elected leaders increased from the current five to seven years.
The bill also seeks to introduce additional constitutional offices which include the office of the opposition leader and the office of the prime minister.
Religious leaders have come out to strongly opposed the bill too.
