Grief as 2 Moi university students drown in quarry

Moi University students are mourning the tragic death of two students who drowned in an open quarry near the main campus on November 4.

The open quarry, popularly known as Oxford quarry is located past Talai stage, Moi University main campus.

The deceased, identified as Chris Otieno, a second year and Wycliffe Machuki, third year student, reportedly went swimming when the unfortunate accident occurred.

The quarry is a known relaxation spot for the university students.

Confirming the incident, Kesses police chief Charles Chacha said that the bodies have been retrieved and taken to Moi Teaching and Refferal Hospital mortuary.

Chacha noted that the police were informed about the incident and quickly swang into action, though it was too late for the duo to be rescued.

Investigations have started and a full report will be provided once completed, promised Chacha.

The tragic incident comes just days before the university scheduled re-opening on Friday following a month-long closure.
