Suspected bhang transporter dies while escaping from police

MUTUMBU: A suspected bhang trafficker lost his life and another was seriously injured in a high-speed crash near Mutumbu on the Kisumu-Busia highway.

The accident happened when the suspects, fleeing from a police dragnet on a motorbike, collided head-on with a truck while speeding towards Kisumu.

Philip Otieno Owuor, Chief of North Gem location in Gem Yala sub-county, confirmed that the suspects were attempting to escape capture when the crash occurred.

The rider was killed instantly, while the pillion passenger sustained critical injuries. The collision scattered bhang and other contraband goods they were transporting across the scene.

The deceased’s body has been taken to Yala sub-county hospital mortuary, and the injured suspect is being treated at the same facility.

Authorities are still working to identify both individuals involved in the crash.
