DCI summons senator Karungo Thangwa over Limuru melee

NAIROBI: Senator Karungo Thangwa has criticized the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for summoning him to Nyeri over an incident that took place in Limuru, Kiambu County.

The lawmaker received a summons from a police officer, Joseph Chirchir, demanding his presence at the DCI offices in Nyeri to discuss the fracas in Limuru, where former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was forced to flee after angry youths stormed the area.

Senator Thangwa took to Facebook to express his frustration, noting that the same DCI officers had previously refused to meet with them at the CID headquarters on Kiambu Road.

“They refuse to meet us at the CID headquarters on Kiambu Road but shamelessly summon us to Nyeri over an incident that occurred in Limuru,” said Thangwa, who nonetheless promised to comply with the summons.

The senator was accompanying Mr. Gachagua at a funeral ceremony in Limuru for a youth who had passed away.

The event descended into chaos, forcing the leaders to flee for safety. During the melee, several people sustained injuries, and property, including vehicles, was damaged.
