Police Rescue 14-Month-Old Girl Abducted by Relative in Kirinyaga County

KIRINYAGA: A rescue operation by officers from Kutus Police Station has led to the safe recovery of 14-month-old Maurine Kariuko, who had been missing since January 23, 2025.

The ordeal began when Maurine’s mother reported her daughter missing after briefly leaving her in the care of a relative while she went to a nearby barber shop.

Upon returning, the mother was horrified to find both the child and the relative had disappeared.

Acting quickly on intelligence, police launched an investigation and traced the relative to a hideout in the Piai area of Kirinyaga County.

With the help of forensic evidence, officers tracked down the suspect, arrested her, and rescued the infant, bringing her back to safety.

Maurine has been joyfully reunited with her family, ending the distressing search and restoring peace to the household. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
