GEM YALA: Two security guards were brutally murdered, and an unknown quantity of goods was stolen during a violent robbery at Yala Market in Gem Subcounty.
The incident took place in the early hours of the morning when a group of armed criminals stormed the market.
Yala OCPD Chris Wafula confirmed the tragic incident, stating that it occurred at approximately 2 am.
Two security guards were killed in the attack, while a third guard managed to escape unharmed. Wafula assured the public that law enforcement is actively investigating the crime, working to identify and apprehend the responsible individuals.
This violent incident is part of a troubling trend of increasing attacks on security personnel. Wafula noted that a similar attack occurred recently at Kogelo Market, raising concerns about the growing threat to local businesses and their security staff. He stressed the importance of a collaborative effort to address these security challenges.
Improving Security Measures in Yala and Surrounding Areas
In response to the rising crime rates, OCPD Wafula revealed plans to engage with business owners in Yala and surrounding areas within Gem Sub county. These discussions will focus on enhancing security measures to protect both market vendors and their employees from future attacks.
Wafula also recommended that business owners prioritize the hiring of more proactive and capable security personnel. He suggested that younger, more alert security guards might be more effective at deterring criminal activity compared to older staff members.
As security concerns grow in Gem Subcounty, business owners are urged to take swift action to bolster their security systems. By working together with local law enforcement and hiring competent security teams, the community can help prevent future tragedies.
