Five suspects in custody for the murder of Nakuru activist, Richard Otieno

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested five suspects linked to the brutal murder of Richard Haga Otieno, which took place on the night of January 18, 2025.

The primary suspects—Geoffrey Mavado, John Ndegwa, and Jorim Ngonga Sura—are believed to have been directly involved in the killing.

Additionally, bodaboda operators Clinton Simantu alias Muiruri, and Peter Mwaniki, alias Pinchez, have been implicated as the individuals who transported the hitmen to and from the crime scene.

Investigations reveal that Mavado and Ndegwa had previously been arrested on November 8, 2024, for assaulting the deceased.

They were sentenced to a one-year probation. However, forensic analysis has now placed them at the scene of the homicide, and crucial evidence has been gathered to support their prosecution.

All five suspects are currently in custody as detectives from the Homicide Directorate, Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau, and Operations unit continue their investigations.

According to post mortem examination carried out by the government pathologist, Jhansen Oduor, the deceased died of severe head injury caused by a sharp object like a panga.

The post moterm examination was conducted by the governmnet pathologist and the Independent Medico-Legal Unit (IMLU).

Authorities are pursuing additional leads to identify any further perpetrators.
