Siaya Court Detains Four Suspects in Deadly Robbery Spree Investigation

SIAYA-CRIME: A Siaya court has ordered four suspects linked to a series of violent robberies and murders to remain in police custody for 14 days as investigations continue.

The suspects—Albert Otieno (23), Farid Kimutai (24), John Okumu (27), and John Ngota (38)—are believed to be behind multiple attacks that resulted in the deaths of at least three people, including security guards at business premises.

Appearing before Magistrate Jacob Mkala, the suspects did not take a plea as the prosecution requested more time to complete its investigations.

They will be held at Yala and Siaya Police Stations until their next court appearance on February 18.

Authorities suspect the group was involved in a brutal January 3 attack at a timber yard and hardware store near Ulumbi Junction in Gem Yala sub-county.

During the raid, security guard Jesse Kalasinga (40) was killed, and valuable goods were stolen.

Investigators also link the suspects to a January 20 incident at Nyang’oma Kogelo market, where they allegedly vandalized a transformer, causing a blackout before ambushing two security guards. One victim, Absalom Sande (29), was killed on the spot, while Francis Nyambese (42) succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.

The gang reportedly looted electronics and other valuables during the attack.

The police are intensifying their probe, seeking additional evidence before pressing formal charges. Detectives from the DCI are also working to establish whether the group has connections to other unsolved crimes in the region.
