6-Year-Old Boy Drowns in Open Dam in Alego-Usonga

ALEGO USONGA: Tragedy struck Agoro-Lieye village in Bar Agulu sub-location, Alego/Usonga constituency, after a 6-year-old boy drowned in an open dam last evening.

The deceased, identified as Emmanuel Ochieng’ Ouma, reportedly slipped and fell into the dam while playing with a friend.

His companion quickly rushed to inform his parents, but by the time they arrived at the scene, the boy had already drowned.

Speaking to Kondele News, acting Assistant Chief Grace Otieno confirmed the incident, stating that officers from Kogelo Police Station were alerted and assisted the family in retrieving the body later that night.

The body was later moved to Siaya County Referral Hospital Mortuary, where a postmortem examination will be conducted.

Mrs Otieno urged parents to closely monitor their children and warned against allowing them to wander near open water bodies unsupervised.

She further called on local authorities to fence off open dams to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
