How the late Kasipul MP, Ong’ondo Were, saw his death coming

NAIROBI: In what seemed like a premonition of what awaited him, the slain Kasipul lawmaker had complained of plans to eliminate him using a barrel of a gun.

The late Charles Ong’ondo Were, who was serving his second term as a lawmaker, said at a burial ceremony last week that some of his political nemesis had planned to execute a plan that would eventually lead to his death.

At that time, while addressing mourners at the ceremony, Were said some people had planned to eliminate him.

“They are waiting for the most appropriate time when am a attending a gathering like this, pay some people to come and cause chaos where I am and shot at me in the process, I am aware of those plans,” he said.

In his speech, he mentioned some people he suspected were behind the scheme to eliminate him.

Earlier this year in February, the lawmaker complained of his life being in danger-he also complained of some people planning to kill him.

Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetangula condemned the act in a press statement mourning the lawmaker as an astute debator who represented his constituents well.

“This callous and cowardly act committed under cover of night has robbed the nation off a distinguished legislator, a fearless advocate for his constituents, and a man deeply committed to the democratic ideals and service to the people he represented, the loss of Hon Were is not only a tragedy to his family and the people of Kasipul but also a big loss to the people of Kenya,” wrote Speaker Wetangula.

The police have launched investigations into the unfortunate incident.
