Daring Nakuru Gang Busted in DCI’s Swift Crackdown, AK-47 Recovered

NAKURU: A ruthless armed gang that had terrorized Nakuru County residents has finally been brought to its knees in a swift and coordinated operation by detectives.

A team drawn from the DCI’s elite Operation Action Team and Crime Research Bureau, working closely with Nakuru detectives, raided the gang’s hideouts, arresting five members and recovering the AK-47 rifle used in their bloody spree.

The suspects were flushed out after intelligence-led operations tracked them to their hiding spots.

Interrogations led police to the Rhoda area of Nakuru, where the AK-47—serial number 18916—was discovered concealed in dry grass near a residential house, loaded with three rounds of ammunition.

The gang’s downfall comes after a reign of terror that has left Nakuru reeling from violent attacks and bloodshed.

On the night of June 1st, 2025, the gang ambushed police officers on foot patrol, killing one and injuring two others, who are still undergoing treatment.

In a separate brutal incident in the Soilo area, the gang stormed a shop, attacking its 24-year-old owner with machetes and daggers before looting hundreds of thousands of shillings.

The victim was then dragged outside and shot dead. Several other violent incidents across the county have also been linked to the gang.

The five suspects have been identified as William Nywhiri Rioba, Nyahiri Nyamuhaga Magige, Emmanuel Muita Muita, Catherine Nkatha Zakayo, and Peter Chacha.

They are currently being processed by DCI Nakuru East detectives and are set to be arraigned on Tuesday, June 3.

In a statement, the DCI assured Nakuru residents and Kenyans at large that security remains a top priority.

Anti-robbery units are pursuing armed gangs whose operations have been mapped out, vowing to rid the streets of violent criminals and end the reign of terror that has gripped Nakuru County.
