BUNGOMA, Kenya June 2; Two police officers were killed in a tragic road accident along the Eldoret-Malaba highway at Matulo area in Bungoma County, Kenya, after their patrol vehicle collided head-on with a truck.
The deadly accident occurred on Tuesday morning as the officers, attached to Bungoma Railways Police Station, were traveling towards Bungoma. Their vehicle reportedly crashed into a speeding truck that was en route to Webuye from the Malaba border.
Bungoma South Sub-County Police Commander Rodgers Bosire confirmed the fatal crash, adding that the truck driver sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Bungoma County Referral Hospital for emergency treatment.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our officers. Investigations into the cause of the accident are currently underway,” said Commander Bosire.
The bodies of the officers were taken to Webuye County Hospital mortuary.
This latest Bungoma road accident adds to the growing concerns over road safety in Kenya, particularly along major highways such as the Eldoret-Malaba route, which has seen a spike in fatal crashes in recent months.
Police are urging drivers to exercise caution and adhere to traffic rules to prevent further loss of lives.
