My late father was a Chief Inspector; he is not happy in his grave, Erick Omondi

Celebrated comedian and activist Erick Omondi has strongly criticized police officers for betraying the trust of their uniform by shooting innocent citizens.

He made these comments during the requiem mass of Boniface Kariuki at All Saints Cathedral, urging officers to reconsider their actions before using live ammunition against demonstrators.

Omondi, whose late father served as a Chief Inspector, expressed deep disappointment in how some officers are handling their duty.

“My late father was a Chief Inspector. I know he is turning in his grave when he sees all that the officers are doing to the innocent people, remarked Omondi.”

He warned that the revered reputation of the police is being “soiled” by those who are quick to shoot.

“This profession is a noble one,” he stated, “but the orders that are given to shoot to kill is defiling police uniform. As an officer, just ask yourself questions before pulling that trigger.”

During the mass, Omondi challenged law enforcement to engage in self-introspection, questioning whether their actions align with their oath to protect life. He stressed that issuing and executing “shoot-to-kill” orders betray the uniform’s core values.

Boniface Kariuki, a 22-year-old hawker, was shot in Nairobi on June 17 amid protests—a horrific incident filmed and widely condemned, he will be buried on Friday at their rural home in Murang’a.

The resulting public outrage led to two officers being interdicted and calls for independent inquiries and accountability Omondi’s comments reflect a broader concern over escalating police brutality and its impact on public trust.
