Siaya County Commissioner Sounds Alarm Over Rising Livestock Theft

Siaya: County Commissioner, Norbert Komora has raised concerns about the escalating cases of livestock theft, which he described as one of the county’s most urgent security challenges.

Speaking at the Ng’iya market in Alego Usonga sub-county, Mr Komora expressed his frustration, stating that almost every day, there is a new report of stolen cattle.

Mr Komora revealed that investigations have uncovered a disturbing trend: stolen livestock are being transported in lorries and Toyota Probox vehicles, making it increasingly difficult for law enforcement to track down the culprits.

The rise in thefts has left local residents feeling vulnerable and anxious.

“We are fully aware that livestock are being stolen and transported in vehicles, which complicates our ability to trace the criminals,” Mr Komora explained.

He assured the public that security operations are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for the thefts.

The County Commissioner issued a stern warning to the criminals involved, emphasizing that their days of evading justice were numbered.

“We will not rest until we bring those responsible to account,” he said.

In a lighter moment during his speech, Mr Komora praised the residents of Siaya for their exemplary conduct during the recent Saba Saba demonstrations.

“Siaya residents have demonstrated a commitment to peace, setting a model for other counties to follow,” he remarked.

Mr. Komora also highlighted Siaya’s untapped resources, notably its gold deposits, which he believes could serve as a catalyst for the county’s socio-economic growth.

“Siaya is rich in resources that, if harnessed in a peaceful and stable environment, could significantly enhance the welfare of the community,” he stated, urging residents to continue fostering harmony for the greater good.
