TURBO: Queen of Angels School in Turbo, Uasin Gishu County, has been closed indefinitely after three pupils died when a latrine collapsed on them.
Speaking after the tragic incident, Education Secretary for Catholic Schools, Father Matthew Too, attributed the collapse to heavy overnight rains.
“It is sad that we have lost three children who were in PP1 and PP2,” Father Too stated. “We suspect that the sinking of the latrine happened after the long rains that were experienced the whole night.”
In response, Uasin Gishu County Director of Education, Wilson Sawe, announced that officers have been dispatched to assess the safety of all Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centers within the county.
“ECDE is under the county government. I have directed the officers to move with speed and assess the nature of all the ECDE centers. We want to check on how safe our children are in the institutions,” he emphasized.
This tragedy tragically echoes a similar event just months ago at Ramba Boys High School in Rarieda, where two students died and two others were rescued alive and hospitalized after a collapse.
