Three dead, 11 injured in Bomet and Vihiga counties

BOMET: A somber cloud has hung over the Bomet–Kisii highway this week following a horrific head-on collision at the Kapmusa area that claimed two lives and left 11 others battling various injuries.

According to Bomet County Traffic Commander Daniel Ololngojine, the accident involved a lorry traveling from Kaplong toward Bomet town and a matatu belonging to the Quarser Shuttle Company.

Preliminary reports indicate that the lorry veered off its path, crashing into the oncoming public service vehicle with devastating force.

The impact was immediate and fatal for the matatu driver and one passenger, both of whom died on the spot.

Their bodies have since been moved to the Longisa Hospital mortuary.

Among the 11 survivors, the youngest victims, a two-year-old and an eight-year-old suffered fractures but are fortunately reported to be in stable condition.

The remaining injured passengers were split between two facilities: seven were rushed to Kaplong Mission Hospital, while four others, listed in critical condition, were referred to Tenwek Hospital for specialized care.

As the wreckage of the two vehicles lies at the Bomet Central Police Station for inspection, a manhunt is currently underway.

Police confirmed that the driver of the lorry fled the scene immediately after the crash and remains at large.

Elsewhere in Vihiga County, a boda boda operator lost his life after he was hit by a track carrying sand at Manyatta.

The accident brought a traffic snarl.

The driver of the track attempted to flee, however, he was intercepted by members of the public.

Police are investigating the incident.
