A suspected thief captured on CCTV cameras stealing a motorbike in Mtwapa town last month is among two suspects arrested by police.

32-year-old Hassan Mohamed Juma, caught on CCTV cameras on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, stealing a motorbike near KCB Bank in the Lambada area, was arrested in Kisauni yesterday during an intelligence-led operation.

According to police reports, Juma was arrested alongside his accomplice, identified as Aggrey Joel Enonda, at their hideout in Kiembeni’s Ugatuzi area, where two motorbikes suspected to be stolen were also recovered.

The report also indicated that Juma and Enonda were notorious suspects, and that one of the recovered motorbikes had been positively identified by its owner.

The duo is currently held at Mtwapa Police Station, pending processing and court arraignment.

A few weeks ago, human rights activists, together with residents of Mshomoroni, raised alarm over a spike in motorcycle thefts that has left many riders in Kisauni counting losses.

According to the Sisters for Justice society group, more than six motorcycles had been stolen in the past two weeks, with most cases reported at local police stations, yet no arrests had been made.

Residents also claimed that about six victims whose motorbikes had been taken were nursing injuries.

The aggrieved families had demanded that police dismantle what they suspect is a well-organized theft syndicate.
