Kenya’s teenage football prodigy Aldrine Kibet has taken a giant stride onto the international stage after signing a €6 million (Sh864 million) deal with Spanish La Liga side Celta Vigo, a historic move that underscores his meteoric rise and the growing global spotlight on Kenyan talent.
The 18-year-old midfielder’s big break has stirred excitement across the country, earning him praise from fans, football officials, and national leaders.
Among the leaders who first lauded the achievement include the Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris who congratulated the lad, calling the transfer a game-changer for the young star and Kenyan football as a whole.
“Kenyan wonderkid Aldrine Kibet has completed a €6 million transfer to Spanish La Liga side Celta Vigo. The 18-year-old U20 star’s move marks a major milestone in his football journey, elevating him from local hero to a rising force on the global stage,” said Passaris.
Kibet, who shot to fame during the 2023 Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) tournament by captaining St. Anthony’s Boys High School, Kitale, to a national title, is now among the select few Kenyans to make it to a top European league.
