Ruto Unveils Sh600 Million Reward Package for Harambee Stars Ahead of CHAN Opener

President William Ruto has announced a record-breaking Sh600 million reward package for the Harambee Stars should they emerge victorious in the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN), in a move aimed at boosting team morale ahead of the continental showdown.

Speaking during a breakfast meeting with the team at the Pullman Hotel on Saturday, just a day before their opening match against the Democratic Republic of Congo, President Ruto detailed an ambitious incentive plan designed to spur the national side to glory.

Under the new reward scheme, each player will earn Sh1 million for every win and Sh500,000 for every draw during the tournament.

The team stands to receive Sh60 million for reaching the quarterfinals, Sh70 million for a semifinal appearance, and a historic Sh600 million if they lift the CHAN trophy.

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) confirmed the announcement in an official statement, reaffirming the government’s strong backing of the national team’s CHAN campaign.

“His Excellency Dr William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya, visited the Harambee Stars in camp ahead of their #CHAN2024 opener,” the FKF said.

The Harambee Stars are scheduled to face the DRC on Sunday in what is expected to be a high-stakes opening encounter.
