Detectives across the country are investigating two separate murder cases after a woman and a Kenya Forest Service warder were found dead in Nyeri and Bomet counties, respectively.
The grim incidents highlight a challenging start to the week for local authorities.
In Nyeri, police are investigating the murder of 25-year-old Hilda Mukami Gathenyi, who was stabbed to death outside her shop in Mukurweini Town on Monday morning.
Detectives who responded to the scene said Gathenyi’s body had four visible stab wounds on her ribs, right breast, forehead, and right armpit.
The lone assailant remains at large, and the motive behind the brutal attack has not yet been established.
Gathenyi was pronounced dead on arrival at a local hospital, and her body has been moved to a mortuary for an autopsy.
KFS Officer Found Murdered Outside His Bomet Home
In a separate incident in Bomet, a 55-year-old Kenya Forest Service (KFS) warder was found dead in a pool of blood outside his house at the Kipsingei quarters in Ndanai area.
The body of Kipronoh Leitich was discovered by a casual worker who had reported to the station on Tuesday morning.
Leitich’s body was found half-naked, with a visible bleeding injury on his forehead suspected to have been inflicted by a sharp object.
Police believe he was attacked outside his house the previous night. His clothes and mobile phone were found inside his house, with the door left ajar after the murder.
The mobile phone, which had been switched off, has been taken for analysis as detectives work to establish if the assailants had contacted him.
The motive for Leitich’s murder remains unknown. His body has been moved to a mortuary as police continue their investigation.
