Bondo Blogger Charged with Publishing False Information and Cyber Harassment

BONDO: A Bondo-based blogger, Boniface Ouma Ohindo, who had been arrested for allegedly defaming a Siaya Member of County Assembly (MCA), has been charged with publishing false information contrary to the Computer and Cybercrimes Act.

Ohindo also faced a second charge of cyber harassment contrary to the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act.

The court heard that on November 2, 2025, at an unknown place within the Republic of Kenya, while using his Facebook account named “Superb Sauti Nikuu”, he willfully and unlawfully published false information alleging that Francis Otieno Otiato had been:embezzling ward development funds, fabricating SACCOss to divert youth and women funds, unlawfully benefiting from fish cages and other county initiatives, misappropriating funds meant for the Lucy Onono Training College, and diverting money allocated to Usigu Mortuary.

The second count detailed that on the same date (November 2, 2025), using the same phone and Facebook account, Ohindo posted offensive and menacing communication directed at Otiato with intent to cause annoyance, distress, and fear.

Ohindo, who was arraigned before Bondo Resident Magistrate Christabel Maiyo, denied all the charges.

The court granted the accused a cash bail of Sh20,000 or an alternative bond of Sh50,000 in default of which he would be remanded at Siaya GK Prison.

The case will be mentioned on November 24, 2025.
