“A Deputy Who Signs Nothing”: Osele Dismisses Push for Luo Second-in-Command

HOMA BAY: Former Kabondo Kasipul lawmaker and current Regional Director of the Presidential Delivery Unit, Sylvance Osele, has launched a scathing attack on Luo Nyanza leaders lobbying for the Deputy President position, labeling the office one of the most “insignificant” in the country.

Speaking during a function in Homa Bay County, Osele ridiculed the ongoing political clamor for a person from the Lake Region to be named the second-in-command within the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Osele expressed disbelief that respected regional leaders were spending political capital on what he described as a ceremonial role.

“I am surprised that some leaders who we really respect from this region are busy lobbying for the position of a Deputy President,” he remarked.

“My friends, what is that? That is the most insignificant position that one can dream of.”

The former MP further argued that the office lacks executive autonomy, pointing out that the Deputy President’s roles are entirely dependent on the President’s discretion.

He questioned why leaders would demand a “Deputy who does not sign anything” rather than positioning the region for the presidency itself after President William Ruto’s tenure.

According to Osele, the Luo Nyanza region already holds more strategic power through the appointments of John Mbadi as Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Opiyo Wandayi as Cabinet Secretary for Energy.

He maintained that these ministerial roles are far more impactful for the community’s development than the Deputy Presidency.

“I want to warn you people. Be careful of what you are calling for; anything ‘deputy’ is insignificant,” Osele stated, urging the region to shift its focus toward supporting the current administration and building the local economy.

His comments come at a time of shifting political alliances in the region, as more leaders move to align themselves with the broad-based government structure.
