The National Police Service is in mourning following the sudden death of Inspector Martin Muthomi, the Officer-in-Charge of the Sachangwan Police Post.
Inspector Muthomi was found dead on Wednesday morning in his rented residence within the Mtoni Police area.
The discovery was made after the officer failed to report for his scheduled duty as an orderly officer.
Alarmed when Muthomi did not answer repeated phone calls, the Molo OCS and a team of officers proceeded to his home to check on his well-being.
Upon arrival at the residence, the officers found the house locked from the inside.
Peering through a window, they observed the Inspector lying unresponsive in a supine position. Concerned for his life, the team, joined by the Sub-County Police Commander (SCPC) and the Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer (SCCIO) for Molo, forced entry into the premises.
Tragically, they confirmed that the senior officer had already passed away.
“The officer was supposed to be on duty this morning. When he failed to report, his colleagues grew concerned. It is a deeply saddening loss for the station and the entire force,” read a police incident report.
Investigation and Health Struggles
While a formal investigation into the circumstances of his death is underway, preliminary findings suggest that Inspector Muthomi had been battling hypertension (high blood pressure).
Detectives at the scene found no immediate signs of struggle or foul play, leading authorities to believe his passing may have been linked to medical complications.
The body of the deceased has been moved to the St. Joseph’s Hospital Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to establish the exact cause of death.
His death highlights the silent health challenges faced by frontline officers, who often work under high-stress conditions that can exacerbate underlying medical issues like hypertension.
