Multi-agency raid nets Sh4 million heroin haul in Mombasa

Two suspects are in police custody following a high-stakes intelligence-led operation in Utange, Mombasa County.

The “hawk-eyed” detectives successfully intercepted narcotics with an estimated street value of over Sh4 million, dealing a significant blow to local drug trafficking rings.

The coordinated swoop was a joint effort involving a multi-agency team from: the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU), the Transnational Organised Crime Unit (TOCU), and Kiembeni Police Station

The team stormed a residential house in the Barawa area of Kisauni Sub-County, which was notably “hidden behind a towering perimeter wall,” suggesting a high level of concealment for the alleged illicit activities.

During the search, officers arrested Tawaida Ali Said and Shamim Abubakar. While initial searches of the bedrooms revealed neatly packed sachets, the suspects had gone to great lengths to hide the bulk of their inventory.

“A further search of the compound led to the discovery of another package of heroin cunningly buried in a hole, tucked away in a corner of the compound, clearly meant to beat the system.”

The recovery of the weighing and drying machines points toward “evidence of a well-oiled illicit business” operating within the residential area. The two suspects are currently “cooling their heels in police custody” as investigators finalize the case file before they are formally charged in court.
