Young Girl Perishes as Arsonist Targets Nairobi Family

A family of four is currently fighting for their lives at Kenyatta National Hospital following a chilling arson attack in Mukuru kwa Njenga’s Boma Yangu Estate that claimed the life of an eight-year-old girl.

The tragedy unfolded at approximately 1:00 am on Wednesday night. According to the family of Roseline Mokaya, the victims were sound asleep when a suspected estranged lover arrived at their seventh-floor apartment.

In what appears to be a premeditated act of malice, the suspect allegedly secured the front door with a new padlock, trapping the family inside, before pouring petrol through the doorway and setting the residence on fire.

The ensuing inferno left the victims with no easy means of escape. In a moment of sheer desperation, Roseline’s youngest daughter, eight-year-old Mary Nyamoita, jumped from the seventh-floor window.

Tragically, she was pronounced dead shortly after.

Emergency responders managed to rescue the remaining four family members, including Roseline and her three other children. They are currently admitted to KNH, where they remain on oxygen in critical condition.

Medical staff and family representatives have described the attack as a targeted act by a “jilted lover.” The calculated nature of the crime, specifically the use of a fresh padlock to prevent escape, has sparked outrage among residents of the estate.

Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect, who remains at large, as the community mourns a young life lost to a senseless act of domestic violence.
