Shock as dispute leads to death of a youth in Suba South

Magunga trading center in Homa Bay County has been left in shock after a family disagreement took a lethal turn within a maize plantation.

Wycliffe Ochieng Anwonge 26, was found dead on Friday morning, his body bearing the horrific marks of a violent struggle.

Preliminary reports from investigators indicate that Wycliffe was involved in a heated dispute with his uncle.

While the root cause of their disagreement remains shrouded in mystery, the confrontation turned physical.

It is alleged that Wycliffe initially attacked his uncle, inflicting a deep panga cut on the older man’s left hand.

However, the tide of the struggle turned when the uncle reportedly disarmed his nephew. In a retaliatory rage, the suspect is alleged to have used the same weapon to inflict fatal wounds on Wycliffe’s head and back.

The young man succumbed to his injuries on the spot, his body left among the stalks of maize until it was discovered by neighbors.

Police arrived at the scene shortly after and recovered the panga believed to be the murder weapon.

The uncle, who sustained significant injuries during the initial scuffle, was first rushed to Magunga Level Four Hospital.

Due to the severity of his hand injury, he was later transferred to the Migori County Referral Hospital, where he remains under tight police guard as he awaits formal charges.

Wycliffe’s body was moved to the St. Camillus Hospital Mortuary, where a post-mortem will be conducted to assist the DCI in piecing together the final moments of this domestic tragedy.

As the village mourns, the incident serves as a grim reminder of how quickly “unknown reasons” can lead to the permanent destruction of a family.
