The former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua officially threw the weight of his Democratic Citizens Party (DCP) behind Nyali MP Mohamed Ali for the 2027 Mombasa Gubernatorial race.
The lawmaker, known for his daring spirit, is the only Member of Parliament whi went against the late Raila Odinga’s wave in 2022 to retain his seat on a UDA ticket.
The unveiling took place before a sea of supporters at the Mama Ngina Waterfront.
Gachagua, often referred to by his supporters as “Riggy G,” stood side-by-side with the man popularly known as Moha Jicho Pevu.
Speaking while unveiling him, Gachagua said he admired his courage and promised to work with him.
“Huyu Moha Jicho Pevu ndio atakuwa DCP candidate ya kiti cha governor hapa Mombasa,” said the former Mathira MP.
He went on, “I will not convert him from Islam to Christianity, I want the support of the Muslim community in Mombasa and I will ensure I convince all the Christians in Mombasa to vote for him.”
The Nyali MP, known for his fiery rhetoric, didn’t hold back. “The era of Mombasa being a playground for two or three families is over. Today, we anchor our boat with the DCP because they recognize that the Coast is not a voting block, it is a powerhouse.”
