NYAMIRA: A month-long search for a missing medical official ended in a grisly discovery on Thursday after police exhumed a body from a shallow grave in Nyamauro Village.
Forensic identification by the National Registration Bureau (NRB) confirmed the remains belong to Duke Nyang’au Obasancho, the 41-year-old Medical Superintendent of Nyamusi Sub-County Hospital.
The body was found in a dugout pit in Nyakenimo Sub-location, miles from where Obasancho was first reported missing on February 23, 2026.
Preliminary police findings revealed a “penetrating neck wound,” suggesting the medic was murdered before being secretly buried.
While police say they are pursuing “promising leads,” no suspects have been arrested. The motive remains a mystery.
The remains have been moved to the Nyamira County Referral Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death.
