Police in Kuria West have launched a manhunt for a suspect who allegedly stabbed a young man to death yesterday following a dispute over a Sh2,000 debt.
According to witnesses, the victim, identified as David Nchagwa Mogaya, was reportedly killed by a neighbor who owed the money to David’s brother.
A confrontation broke out between the victim and the suspect, which rapidly escalated into a fatal physical attack, leaving the community in shock.
The murder of David Mogaya has sparked outrage and fear across the region, a worrying trend of lethal violence stemming from minor grievances.
With a similar pattern of debt-related killings reported in the recent past, religious leaders in Kehancha have condemned the act.
They are urging residents to seek mediation and peaceful conflict resolution rather than resorting to violence.
The victim’s family and local villagers have also joined the call for justice, urging law enforcement to expedite the investigation and ensure the perpetrator is held accountable.
This tragedy marks the second such incident in the sub-county in less than a month.
Just two weeks ago, another youth was killed in Isebania following a disagreement with a friend. This string of killings has raised serious concerns among residents regarding the security situation and the social fabric of Kuria West.
“We cannot have a society where life is taken over such small amounts of money. Justice must be swift to deter others,” said one resident during a community gathering.
The suspect remains at large. Local authorities have confirmed that a manhunt is underway and have appealed to the public for any information that might lead to an arrest.
